Join the Chesapeake Gateway Chamber of Commerce at the Farmers’ Market in the heart of Essex! Purchase fresh, locally-grown produce and homemade arts and crafts directly from those who participated in their production. Improve our local economy by supporting our farmers and other local vendors! The market will run every Friday from June 3 to Oct. 28 at 23 Eastern Blvd. in Essex.

CCBC will host two open houses this summer on campus. Open houses will be held 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, July 9 at CCBC Essex and 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, July 23 at CCBC Catonsville.

Attendees will have the opportunity to talk with admissions staff, learn more about CCBC’s academic programs, ask questions about admissions, financial aid, and student services and tour the CCBC campus. The events will include Early College Access Program information sessions with details on the new BCPS/CCBC tuition-free program where qualifying BCPS students can take credit and noncredit CCBC courses free of tuition, books and fees starting this summer. Free lunch will be provided.

“Grab and Go” summer meals from BCPS

Beginning Wednesday, July 20, Baltimore County families will be able to pick up and take home their free Summer Food Service Program breakfast and lunch meals. The program runs through August 19.

Until now, meals had to be consumed on site, but recent passed legislation now enables parents or guardians to pick up meals at BCPS community sites to take home. Meals are served Monday through Friday, and each day, those picking up meals will receive one lunch and the next day’s breakfast for each child in their household under the age of 18.

Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre presents “Dot” by Colman Domingo

Cockpit in Court Summer Theatre, in residence at CCBC-Essex, will perform “Dot” July 23 to Aug. 7. All performances will be held at the Robert and Eleanor Romadka College Center Cabaret Theatre at CCBC-Essex.

This twisted and hilarious new play grapples unflinchingly with aging parents, midlife crises and the heart of a West Philly neighborhood.

Performance schedule: July 23, 29, 30 and Aug. 5, 6 at 8 p.m.; July 24, 31 and Aug. 7 at 3 p.m.

Back for its seventh year, the Overlea Farmers Market will offer a variety of locally grown produce, crafts and more. It will be held 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every two Saturdays from June 4 to Oct. 22 on the parking lot of the Natural History Society of Maryland at 6908 Belair Rd.

BCPS Summer Food Service Program through Friday, August 19

Baltimore County Public Schools will offer free breakfast and lunch meals to all youth ages 18 and under through the Summer Food Service Program from June 21 to August 19. For a complete list of sites and times that breakfast and lunch will be provided, please visit the County Schools’ website.

Robotics Introduction Workshop at Aviation Museum

Robots on the run in Middle River! The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum at Martin State Airport is offering an Introduction to Robotics workshops for 8 to 12 year olds on July 20, 10 a.m. to noon and repeating on Friday, August 19, from 10 a.m. to noon. Working with Edison robots, participants will be introduced to the concept of robots. Using a simple programming language called EdBlocks, they will be working in pairs to overcome a class challenge and seeing how their program translates into action as they attempt to control their robot through a maze. All materials will be supplied and students leave with a free book on robots. The workshop is limited to 20 students per session. Fee is $20, payable in advance. The Mike Seney Elite Hoops Camp

The CCBC Essex Knights will host the inaugural Mike Seney Elite Hoops Camps August 8-12. The camp will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open for players ages 8 to 17. Registration is $175 for the week.

During the camp, players will receive instruction from the coaches and players of CCBC Essex, including Head Coach, Mike Seney. Campers should wear closed-toe athletic shoes and approriate attire as well as bring a self-container lunch and water bottle each day of camp.

The registration form and payment are due to the Essex Athletics office no later than Wedneday, August 3. Please contact the athletic office at with any other questions.

Baltimore County Public Schools will host its inaugural GatHERing STEAM conferences for rising seventh and 10th-grade female and nonbinary students who are interested in exploring course and career pathways in science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics (STEAM). During the daylong conferences, students will interact with women in STEAM careers and engage in interdisciplinary learning experiences. Lunch and all supplies will be provided. Transportation will be provided from a limited number of schools. Interested students are encouraged to register online.

Registration deadline was June 30. Below are conference dates and locations:

Eastside conference – Monday, August 15, 2022, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Kenwood High School.

Westside conference – Tuesday, August 16, 2022, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Catonsville High School.
